Licensing and virtual machines

Postby daa » Mon Oct 05, 2009 11:00 am

We're using virtual machines for some of our testing (using Sun VirtualBox), mainly so that we can run tests that make extensive changes to the system date/time without terminally confusing my main development machine, the automated time-logging system, the error tracking and change control software, and me.

So my question is: how does the licensing work with virtual machines? Can I reinstall the IDE on the virtual machine under the same key, or do I need an extra license?

Alternatively, is there any way to partition off the test environment and lie to it about the current date/time?

Hi Ranorex,
I have concern about License of Ranorex.
In general, one test case, we have to apply with with VMware/Vista/XP SP2/XPSP3/Firefox/IE/ PC with Pentium 3/ Pentium 4/ core2dou/ AMD chipset / Intel Chipset.
My question is: With some Ranorex license, can I run test case in multi platform?

Hi,

It is allowed to run one Ranorex Runtime license on multiple virtual images. But you have to ensure that every VM instance uses the same computer/host name. That's because all Ranorex licenses are bound to the computer's host name.

If you need additional help in setting up Runtime licenses for your virtual machines, please get directly in contact with support@ranorex.com.

kind regards,

We can't seem to register floating licences on VM machines. When attempting to detect, we can see the license server, but can not register the floating license through Auto or Runtime selections. Any sugesstions?

Hi,

I could be a DNS problem. The DNS is not able to resolve the IP of the license server by its name.
Are you able to ping the License Server from the VM using the detected license server name?
Try using the IP instead of the license server name.
