Best way to run Ranorex from a MacBook

Post by hicsel » Mon Dec 07, 2020 6:02 pm

Hi Guys

I'd appreciate any experience and help with this.
Basically Company i worked for has merged with another.
Seemingly the Windows laptops all need to be relaced with MacBooks for security reasons.

This is fine by me, however I wish to keep running my Ranorex suite and developing more Tests with it.

an option i had considered was:

Set up Virtual Box on my new MAC.
Add a Windows 10 Image to it (so windows 10 vm)
Install ranorex (on the windows 10 vm)
Run Ranorex using the Windows 10 VM from there

Are there any problems you foresee doing this?
ie will it work?
Is there a better way to do this?
If this works can i use Macbook (so interact with desktop or other apps) while ranorex scripts are running?

Thanks in advance for answers

Hi there,

Currently the solution you have in place to run Ranorex Studio on Mac is doing through a virtual machine. Once installed it will be fully operational and should have access to IE browser testing. Yes, once the test starts you can place the virtual machine session on a separate monitor or minimize it so you can go back to working the Mac desktop.

Good luck!
