Failed to find item, No element found for path

Post by PankajKansal » Wed May 30, 2018 12:32 pm

Hi,

I created a sample HTML page with name 'SampleHTML.html'. I recorded on text change event. The steps are as follows:-

1. Start Recording.
2. Open the page in Chrome and copy URL.
3. Provide the URL in recording wizard.
4. Change the value of any text box.
5. Stop recording.

Problems:-

1. Elements are generated with unique ids not with the name. How can ranorex generate elements by name in recording.

2. These control ids are generated at runtime so next time another unique id is generated and the tool is not able to find the control. Thus after recording, RUN fails. How these ids can be made static.

Please find snapshot file, Screenshots and sample html file as attachment.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

At first, if you are automating a web page inside Chrome, there is definitely something wrong with Ranorex plugin in Chrome. Web pages should be recorded with DOM as a root element. In your case, there is recorded Form as root element, which means Ranorex plugin is not installed/working. So please make sure, you have Ranorex plugin for Chrome installed and working. Then try to re-record tour test.

Additionally, please let us know your Ranorex version. Most recent version is 8.1.1. If you are using anything older, please update it (uninstall old version and install new one).
