Failed to start app on iOS

Post by tmt » Tue Apr 22, 2014 3:59 pm

Hello,

We want to run test on iOS in Ranorex Studio(5.0.2 & Win7). IPA file have been instrumenting and the device have been configouring correctly. If we want record or play a test, it doesn't run. Ranorex failed and throw this error:
Untitled.jpg
Untitled.jpg (22.79 KiB) Viewed 1993 times
Ranorex open our app on the selected device, but after a few sec the app has closed and ranorex is broken. It seems the device didn't send a feedback to ranorex about the running app.

We changed the connection timeout, but it didn't help.
We tried to run the test on more device without succes.

What should we do? Thanks.

Hi tmt,

Have you instrumented your application with the newest lib? The newest version of our automation lib is available under the following link: iOS lib

May I ask you to answer the following questions:
Which value has the connection timeout?
Is it possible for you to send us your application to [email protected]

This will help us to analyze the issue.

Hi,

We have instrumented our app with the newest lib.

If we build from Xcode to the device, Ranorex works correctly (starts & stops the app). If we create an enterpreise build it doesn't work, we get the error message mentioned before. It seems that Ranorex can't attach to the debug server.

According to Apple's documentation it's not possible to debug builds that wasn't deployed via Xcode. See: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios ... index.html

So, is there any way to run Ranorex tests on enterprise builds with automated app start (and stop)?

Regards,
tmt

Hi tmt,
Thanks for the reply.

Usually it should be possible to use the .IPA file which is generated with xCode.
Please check the following steps:
  • Ensure that the device is in debug mode.
    • In order to enable starting and stopping of the application under test on the device, it is necessary to establish a debug session. This can be accomplished by simply deploying any app to the device in debug scheme from Xcode. As long as the device is not restarted, the debug session will remain alive.
    • Note: Only one debugger can be attached at the same time. If you have problems with the debugger session, please try to close all opened apps. If closing all apps does not help, restart the device and establish a debug session again.
  • If you are using a WIFI connection, the Application has to be started manually.
May I ask you to send us your application, so we can try to reproduce this problem on our machines?
