Failure to retrieve device information.

Post by stuart.miller » Fri Aug 02, 2013 6:23 am

Evaluating Ranorex for Android testing. I was able to install/configure Ranorex (Win86) and the recommended JRE. I deployed the Ranorex app (405.apk) and then deployed the instrumented APK which indicates it was deployed to the device (Samsung Galaxy Nexus - no data connection). I see the app listed under the Ranorex screen on the device. I see the device in windows. When i try to start the recorder, i am given a popup msg that says "Failure to retrieve device information. Please check that the device is connected." The device is running Android 4.2.2 and is connected via USB

Hello,

Did you install the USB adb driver and enabled 'USB Debugging' mode on your device?
Could you please post the settings of your device (Display Name, IP Address and Metadata)?
Is it possible to connect via WiFi to your device?

Regards,
Markus (T)

Hi Markus,

The display name shows as 'Galaxy Nexus' and there is no IP on the phone (it displays as 127.0.0.1 in Ranorex) as there is no service on the device and no WIFI available. There is no issue with connectivity to the phone as I installed/started the Ranorex Services, and also deployed an instrumented build. I can see the build available listed in the Ranorex Services UI on the phone. I can also view the device with the Ranorex Spy tool as well as start the instrumented app using the StartApp option in the spy tool.

Wifi will not be available for me until next week.

The Ranorex UI shows the metadata value as '0146882D0D013002'

Hello,

It looks like that it works correctly.
Did you get the error message you mentioned in your first post?
"Failure to retrieve device information. Please check that the device is connected."
If not, could you please describe your issue in more details.

Regards,
Markus (T)

Hi,

I have the same problem. Device gets recognised and I can even deploy an .apk to the device but afterwards I cannot choose this .apk to run the test on, and get the error message above.

The device (a Samsung Galaxy S3) is connected via USB, USB adb driver is installed and 'USB Debugging' mode is enabled on your device.

Display name: GT-I9300
IP: 127.0.0.1
Metadata: 4df1f4b176396fa9
Port: 31000
Status: No app running (it has a tick icon)

Actually, the app IS running on the phone but Ranorex isn't recognising it.

Please help!

Hi,

Does this issue still exist? If yes, which Ranorex version do you use?

Regards,
Robert
