Flash Player 19 Flash/Flex Instrumentation Error 1013

Post by RanoTester » Fri Nov 13, 2015 4:54 pm

PROBLEM SUMMARY: In Windows 7 using Internet Explorer 10 or 11, in regard to Flash / Flex Instrumentation, both Ranorex v5.3.2.23378 and Ranorex v5.4.3.26106 appear to be incompatible with the latest version of Flash Player (ActiveX Version 19.0.0.25). See screenshot for the Error 1013.

Yet, both of these Ranorex versions are in fact compatible with Flash Player ActiveX Version 17.0.0.188 (which converts to 18.0.0.261 once the Instrumentation is successful).

NOTE: When we had Flash Player ActiveX v19.0.0.25 installed on both of our Ranorex machines, Flash / Flex Instrumentation was failing due the Error 1013 seen in the screenshot. Ranorex could not recognize our Web App correctly with this being the case; all of our existing automation would fail.

WORKAROUND: To resolve, on both of our Ranorex Development / Playback machines, we did the following:
(1) Un-installed Flash Player completely via the Flash Player 'Uninstall' download file (found on the Adobe web site). Then, restarted both machines.
(2) Via the Adobe web site, downloaded and installed (on both of our playback machines) the ActiveX Version of the previous Flash Player that we were using (Version 17.0.0.188).
(3) We were then able to successfully get the Ranorex Flash / Flex Instrumentation to work on our Web App. Once the Instrumentation was successful, the Flash Player ActiveX version changed on its own from 17.0.0.188 to 18.0.0.261. This is fine. Ranorex can now recognize our Web App using this version of Flash. All of our existing Ranorex automation once again works.

Hi RanoTester,

Sometimes after updating Flash player the following error message appears during the instrumentation process. One of the most common problems is that some files of the old Flash player are still available on your system. In this case, please try again to uninstall the Flash Player using the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller. After the process has finished, please also remove the content of the following directories manually:
  • C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
  • C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
  • C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Flash Player
  • C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player
Afterwards, please reboot your machine, install the latest flash player and run the instrumentation wizard again.

Alternatively, you could also manually download the Adobe Debug Player for your desired Browser and run the Instrumentation Wizard with the following settings

PS: Please note that Chrome & Chromium dropped Support for NPAPI Flash player. More information can be found in this announcement.

Please let me know if this message still appears after performing those steps.
Regards,
Markus (S)

Excellent - Thank you for the detailed reply. We've documented the proposed solution. It may help others, as well. For the time being, we've decided to stay on Flash Player ActiveX Version 18.0.0.261. :)
