Flash Player Issues with Ranorex 5.4.0

Post by kishore_scotia » Mon Aug 10, 2015 4:58 pm

Hi,

We have recently upgraded to 5.4 version. We have automated a flash application using Ranorex 5.1 with no issues previously.
Currently we are facing issues after instrumenting the flash application. After instrumentation a file called mm.cfg is created and navigating thru menus in the flash application is not working either manually or when we launch the application thru ranorex. To be clear, when we click on the navigation menu, application is not responding. It is not navigating and remains on same page.

After removing mm.cfg file everything works as expected but objects are not getting identified using ranorex hence we are unable to automate the flash application.

Here are our versions

Adobe flash Player : 18.0
Internet Explorer : 11

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

When you open your flash application, do you see any information in the flash trace log?

mmmm. ok I am assuming in the flash trace log it's not throwing any errors here.

Pretty much to automate flash application using Ranorex you need to ensure three things.

1. You have installed the debug flash player(which should be installed when you run the instrumentation wizard).
2. the mm.cfg file has been placed in the correct location.
3.You can see information getting logged in the flash trace log.

Try performing these steps and see if it helps.

1. Uninstall Ranorex.
2. Restart your machine.
3. Reinstall Ranorex
4. Run the flash instrumentation wizard again for Internet Explorer.
5. Restart your machine.
6. Open your flash application in Internet Explorer and make sure you are using a debug flash player by right clicking anywhere.
7. Paste the following in your address bar --> %HOMEDRIVE%\%HOMEPATH% and make sure the mm.cfg file is there, if not, just create one.
8. Make sure you have the required settings inside the mm.cfg file. You can get that from the manual guide.
9. Make sure you don't run your app as administrator as Ranorex won't be able to pickup the mm.cfg file and it's a known issue amongst the flash community. You can do a google search on this.

I had issues before as well with flash and the above steps seems to always solve it.
Hope it will work for you as well. :?

hmmm maybe try and compare the log file when using Ranorex 5.1?

if it works then maybe try using another later version of Ranorex besides 5.4 and if it works there as well then it might be some bug with version 5.4 specifically. If that's the case i'm afraid you'll need to report it to Ranorex Support.
