FlashDebugger Installation Error

Post by mkd » Thu May 12, 2016 3:01 pm

Hi,
I want to Track Flash Objects with the Spy using IE as a Browser (Version 11.306) and Ranorex Spy shows the message "Ranorex Technology Limitation" with the Run Wizard button. By using the wizard I get the error message shown in the image. I do not have any instance of the browser opened and checked it with the task manager as well as restarted the computer without opening any browser and trying it - same result.

Anyone having similar problems?
Thanks in advance.

Hi mkd,

First, may I ask which version of Ranorex you currently use? I assume that there is still an active instance of Internet Explorer. For example, Skype also uses an instance of Internet Explorer. Please double-check if there is any other tool which uses for example an embedded IE browser.

General information about flash instrumentation can be found in our user guide.

Sincerely,
Johannes

Hi Johannes,

Ranorex Version 5.4.6
IE Version 11.306
There are defenitely no processes running that use IE I basically killed everything (but thanks for the hint anyway because I got rid of a nasty skype process).

In my opinion the problem is IE 11 with Active X because if I try to install any Flash Version (Debugger aswell) it says that I can't installt it because I have the up to date version already (but it is without the debugger).
I set up a VM running Windows 7 and IE 8 and there I can install the Debugger(V. 18) and work with Ranorex but I need it to work on IE 11 which has ActiveX automatically with the Flash Player already.

Thanks in advance!

Hi mkd,

In this case, please try to uninstall the Flash Player using the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller. After the process has finished, please also remove the content of the following directories manually:
  • C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Flash Player
  • C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player
Afterwards, please reboot your machine and try installing the flash debug player with the instrumentation wizard.
Alternatively, you could also manually download the Adobe Debug Player for your desired Browser and run the Instrumentation Wizard with the following settings.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue.

Sincerely,
Johannes

Hi Johannes,

I tried out what you suggested and ended up in a weird state of IE. I uninstalled Flash the way you explained it but it stays as a BuiltIn Addon in Internet Explorer so it was still there and I could not install a new version because I have the up to date version installed already (same message).
The Ranorex Wizard message stays the same aswell - close IE or any instances of it...

The images below will show you the state my IE is in now since I can't display Flash elements anymore and can't install Flash Player (and my Active X Filter is not on).

Hi mkd,

It seems like you use Windows 10, which explains why installing the flash player didn't work properly. Unfortunately, Adobe doesn't provide a debugger for IE on Windows 10.

As a workaround you could try loading the Ranorex lib into the flash application manually like described in our user guide.

Alternatively, you could use Firefox for testing the flash application.

In regard to the general flash issue, I would suggest having a look at the Adobe web page, which probably provides some troubleshooting information. Possibly, a new installation of IE will resolve the issue.

I hope this information will help you.

Sincerely,
Johannes

Hi Johannes,

thank you a lot for all the help (I thought I mentioned using W10 somewhere but I didn't - sorry for that).
I managed to let it run with Firefox so that works for me so far.
