Having problem updating to Ranorex 7.1.2

Post by EDR_CB » Wed Sep 20, 2017 12:39 pm

Dear all,

i'm having some difficulties upgrading to Ranorex 7.1.2.

During the Install, i get the following message :

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a
folder containing the installation package
'Ranorex-5.4.0.24580.msi' in the box below

Any ideas ?

Hi,

Are you installing Ranorex using "exe" or "msi" file? You should always use 'exe' file!

Also, from the error message, it appears that your previously installed version is 5.4.0, is that right? In this case, I guess that 7.1.2 unsuccessfully tried to uninstall this version. Usually, this step works fine. I would suggest to uninstall the old version manually (via "Programs and Features"), before starting 7.1.2 setup.

Hello,

thank you for your response but i am indeed using the .exe file and not the msi.

Moreover, my previous version of Ranorex was Ranorex 6.1.

That's weird. In my opinion, version 5.4. (if there was such version installed on your system) was not uninstalled correctly and 7.1.2 setup somehow picked 'Ranorex-5.4.0.24580.msi' from registry? And because the file most probably no longer exists on your system, the setup is stuck. I would try to search the string in 'Ranorex-5.4.0.24580.msi' in registry and eventually delete the registry key storing this string. Then you can try 7.1.2 setup again.

Sorry, but no. Just search the string "Ranorex-5.4.0.24580.msi" in entire registry ;)

I made a search for the string Ranorex-5.4.0 and it came up with nothing.

Could the reference to Ranorex be inside a file somewhere ?

hi EDR_CB

After uninstalling Ranorex, I would suggest searching just for "Ranorex" and delete every registry entry regarding Ranorex.
Please don´t forget to restart your machine after deleting the regestry key.
Afterwards, also look for any Ranorex folders within C:\Program Files (x86) and delete them.

I hope, this helps installing Ranorex 7.2 which was released yesterday ;-)

regards,
