How to speed up object identification

we use Ranorex version 5.1.1. on Win7 to automate a Windows application(win forms). We have the problem that some elements are not identified in an acceptable time (>10s).

Can you tell me something about the mechanism that is used to identify objects? And some tricks to boost the identification. (implementation or xpath,...=

It is possible to send you a snapshot of the application and the used xpaths, but i'am not allowed to attach the data to this topic.

First, you should upgrade to Ranorex 5.4.0, which is the current supported version. 5.1.1 is no longer supported and should not be used.

And I will give the 5.4 a try on a vm, but i can't update our production system on the fly.
