Problems using Floating License Over VPN Connection

Hello,

We are using Ranorex 6.1 in our local machines, but the license server is in a remote location which we have to access through a VPN connection. The problem is that whenever there is a slight breakage in the connection, the application crashes or just shows a message that license could not be found. My question is, is there a workaround to this aggressive polling to the license server, so that a gap of a few seconds does not crash the application?

Hello Raiyan,

If the connection to the Ranorex License Manager is only interrupted for a brief moment, you should still be able to continue working in Ranorex Studio. Please note that it is generally recommended to have a stable connection between the client and the server.

May I ask which version of the Ranorex License Manager is currently installed? I would suggest updating the Ranorex License Manager to the latest version (6.2.1).

I use Ranorex v6.2 on my local machine while my License Server is in a remote location. This remote License Server is typically accessed via VPN. I use this all day every day (most days) and it works perfectly because I have a stable VPN.

I have had issues while in the office when the License Server is again remote, now at the end of a WAN. One time I had to click OK on a dialog every few minutes until a connection was restored. I think there was an Internet outage of some kind in the remote location.

However, another time, while on VPN, the remote location suffered an extended power cut and Ranorex just vanished from my local machine desktop, taking my unsaved work with it. I was away from my desk at that moment so I only noticed it had gone when I came back.

Nowadays I am in the habit of building my Ranorex solution (which performs a save-all action as part of that process) or doing a manual save-all regularly as a matter of course, just in case. Two incidents in 6+ months though, so it's never been a big issue here at least.
