Random "user-mapped section open" errors when opening .rxsln

Post by lyn5000 » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:32 pm

I've been getting this error since upgrading to Ranorex 3.3 from 3.2.
1. Make sure Ranorex Studio and Visual Studio are closed
2. Open .rxsln
3. Sometimes get error dialog:
Dialog Title: Project Save Error
"Failed to save project 'c:\...projectname.csproj'. The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open."
"Would you like to try again?" Yes/No

4. Yes just keeps throwing the same dialog and message.
5. No dismisses the dialog and Ranorex Studio opens and the solution loads and builds fine.
6. Then closing Ranorex Studio and opening the rxsln again throws the dialog for a different csproj file.

Hello,

It is hard to reproduce your issue.
What minor version of Ranorex 3.2 was installed before you made the upgrade?
Have you made any changes in the svn settings?
Is a virus scanner running on your system?
The virus scanner could be the trigger of this message.

- I think it was Ranorex 3.2.3 before upgrading to 3.3. I never saw this error dialog when using 3.2.3.
- No we don't use the SVN (Subversion) settings in Ranorex. We don't use Subversion for version control.
- Yes I am using Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) on Windows 7.

I disabled real-time protection in MSE and the error dialog never appears. When I re-enable real-time protection the error dialog appears randomly again. Obviously I do not want to leave real-time protection disabled though.

To see if I could find out anything else about this issue I also tried monitoring all the files in the solution in our version control to see which and how files get changed in the error dialog scenario compared to the non-error dialog scenario (where the solution just opens normally with no error) and could not see any difference. So as far as I can see it appears nothing gets broken in the solution when the dialog appears but I might be missing something.

Interestingly when opening the ..._VS2010.sln file to open the solution in VS, this error dialog never appears (with MSE real-time protection enabled).

Hello,

Is this the whole error message you sent in you first post? If not please send us the whole message.

Please try to change the settings 'Svn Version' from 1.6 to 1.7 in the Subversion Options.
You can find the options in Ranorex when you navigate to Tools -> Options -> Tools -> Subversion Options
SvnOptions.JPG
SvnOptions.JPG (41.52 KiB) Viewed 2108 times
If this doesn't work please try to remove the folder 'SubversionAddin' from the Ranorex installation.
The folder should be placed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ranorex 3.3\RanorexStudio\AddIns\AddIns\Misc

- Svn Version is already 1.7.
- Removed the folder SubversionAddin but the error dialog still occurs.
- The first post contains the whole error message except I shortened the full path of the csproj file for privacy. It's '%USERPROFILE%\[folder1]\[folder2]\[folder3]\[folder4]\[folder5]\[folder6]\[folder7]\[folder8]\[folder9]\[projectfile].csproj' where [folder1] etc is the name of a folder in the path and [projectfile] is the name of my project file. Yes and No are dialog buttons.

Hello,

Are the any special security settings on your system. It is strange because we are also using Microsoft Security Essentials and there are no problems. It seems that the file is locked by another program (maybe MSE) at the moment you open the .rxsln file. It is hard to give you a better solution since we cannot reproduce your problem. You can try to the Ranorex project folder from the MSE scan and look if the message still occurs.
