Ranorex Slow on Windows 10?

Post by Fergal » Fri Jan 26, 2018 4:58 pm

I recently updated to Windows 10 and now Ranorex 7.1.2 is running very slowly, even occasionally giving a "Not Responding" message. The machine has 16GB Ram an i5 processor and most other programs seem to be running fine.

Are there any known issues causing this or any suggestions for speeding it up?

Many thanks!

Hi,

The only slowdown I'm aware about is the Firefox plugin speed issue, which is somewhat improved (but not fully fixed yet) in Ranorex 8.0.

Also, I remember a problem with integrated TFS caused by MSSCCI provider. Are you, by any chance, using integrated TFS? If yes, then you should consider stop using it. This is, unfortunately, the only way how to fix the Ranorex Studio speed caused by integrated TFS ;)

Thanks for your reply odklizec. This issue is not related to Firefox and we don't use TFS. Ranorex is just generally very slow since the machine has been upgraded to Windows 10.

I see...well, maybe there are some Win10 updates/configuration tasks still running in background? Have you checked the Task Manager, what's the CPU usage? I would try to reinstall Ranorex and .Net. Just in case... :D

Thanks again odklizec. CPU usage is varying between 30 & 60%. I will try reinstalling Ranorex and see if that helps.

When I run the Windows Compatibility Troubleshooter on Ranorex Studio (7.1.3) it suggests Windows XP. Perhaps a Ranorex support person could please give a view on this?

Thanks.

Hi guys,

The customer was in contact with us via email.

Ensuring that all Windows updates are installed and completely re-installing all software prerequisites as well as Ranorex itself resolved the issue to a certain extend.

Ranorex Prerequisites: https://www.ranorex.com/help/latest/system-requirements

Robert

Thanks for your help Robert. "re-installing all software prerequisites" was particularly helpful and Ranorex is running faster now. However, it is still very slow at times, much slower than it was on Windows 7.

If anyone else has ideas or suggestions for speeding it up it would be most welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

I've been chuggin through this issue too on my desktop. Which is a Monster.
3.7GHz Xeon E5-1630 / 64GigaWatts RAM / x64 Win10 Pro

Had Microsoft Teams & Team Viewer installed => jettisoned both of those.

Does a Ranorex update count as a "re-install" w/respect to this issue? :?:
Does the Ranorex installer provide a path to re-installing all the pre-requisites?

Thanks

p.s. Test Workstation is x64 Win7 Pro and Ranorex runs markedly faster on that system.

Hello Hondo,

No, an update doesn't count

Recommended Upgrade Procedure:
  • • Completely uninstall Ranorex
    • (Opt) Remove Prerequisites
    • Reboot your machine
    • Download and install the latest version of Ranorex
Please use the Ranorex setup executable (not the *.msi file), which includes all the required software prerequisites.

Sincerely,
Robert

When this issue first occurred I uninstalled Visual Studio and disabled quite a few Windows services, which appeared to help speed up Ranorex.

Ranorex has recently slowed then again, after a new installation of Visual Studio. This slowness is still there, even when Visual Studio is closed on the laptop. Are there any known issues around this?

Thanks.

Hi Fergal,

I'm afraid that there is no known constraint with VS, which could cause a performance issues within Ranorex Studio.

Sincerely,
Robert
