rawtext disappears going from 6.0 to 6.2 with GDI capture

Post by corruptedprogrammer » Wed Feb 22, 2017 3:45 am

Hello,

After upgrading from 6.0 to 6.2, all the rawtext elements disappeared from Ranorex Spy (GDI capture is still enabled).

When I was using 6.0, I used rawtext RanoreXPaths excessively, so when I upgraded to 6.2, it broke a lot of my test cases.

I have downgraded to 6.0 and sure enough, all the rawtext elements came back.

Thank you for your time,

Mike

Hi,

Are you using 6.2 or 6.2.1 (and on Windows 10)? There was issued a GDI Raw text related bug fix in 6.2.1, for Windows 10 Anniversary edition...

Apologies for the mix up.

I have 6.2.1 installed on Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1.

In the Active Window Info (Window Spy) app, it says the ClassNN is ClassNN: WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.b7ab7b_r12_ad12.

Thank you,

Mike

Hi,

I'm afraid, I don't have a clue what's going on then. Maybe just one thing. Please check what exactly is stored in GDI Capture Settings list for this particular element? And have you tried to remove and add the problematic element again? The thing is, that the numbers and especially the last part of the classname string (.0.b7ab7b_r12_ad12) is very fragile and could easily break with each system or AUT update. So make sure this part of string (and ideally all numeric values) is replaced with regex in GDI Capture list.

Anyway, if it worked in 6.0, it should definitely work with 6.2.1 as well. So it looks like there is something seriously broken in 6.2.1 regarding the GDI Capture and RAW texts?

I too use RawText/GDICapture extensively, but I haven't seen any issues introduced at all I'm afraid. I started on v6.0 and have been through all versions since. Currently using Ranorex v6.2.1 on Windows10 however (not Anniversary Edition I believe).

I do have to get this stuff running on a Windows7 box and noticed last time I tried I had some setup to do to get the RawText elements working as expected. But I've not been back to that box lately. It was just a quick test to see how it ran. A work in progress there.

Hi Mike,

There was a GDI/RawText bug fix in Ranorex 6.2.1, but unfortunately it seems like there are still issues for some specific applications.

In order we can analyze your issue in detail we will need access to the application under test. May I ask to contact [email protected] directly?

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Johannes
