2 points:
1 - When I compiled my test case in Release Mode, in the solution "bin" folder... i didnt get a "release" folder created (v2.0RC1), and also the studio didnt prompt me to save the solution when i closed it
2 - When you play back your compiled .exe, the testlog.xml file isnt created in the same directory ... what procedure does it go through in placing the log file?

I can`t reproduce your first issue on Ranorex2.0 RC1.
Can you give a little bit more information.
Have you set Build->Set Configuration->Release in the menu bar?
If you run the generated exe in studio the report.rxlog file is moved immediately to the report folder of the project because when you do a rebuild, the *.rxlog file will be always removed. We may change that in release version.
solution:
You can run the exe after closing studio or you copy your generated exe outside your project folder tree and run it.
