Screensaver tests

Post by marlonc » Sun May 21, 2017 11:58 pm

Hi, while others recommend disabling the screensaver while testing. Ours need it to be running. In fact screensaver is one of our product to be tested. Currently, when I perform a record on previewing the screen saver, ranorex displays black screen on the logs.
Is there a way to grab the currently displayed screensaver?

Hi,

As far as I know, that's not possible. Ranorex (any GUI test automation tool) requires realized desktop and screensavers simply locks it. So no, there is most probably no way to automate screensaver-based tests.

There is no "probably" about it... ;)

There is NO WAY to test screensavers with Ranorex, or any other functional test automation tool, in Windows.

This is a WINDOWS SECURITY FEATURE and cannot be changed, turned off, etc.
Shortcuts usually aren't...

finally, we were able to check this using hyper-v manager. we moved the test machines to vm and use hyper-v to check if screensavers kicked off. thanks.
