Sharing a floating licence from a pc to a VM

Post by Henry » Tue Dec 06, 2016 3:11 pm

Hoping someone could advise.

I have two PC's on same subnet.

PC 1 has IP address 192.168.2.150
This machine hosts the Ranorex floating licence server

PC 2 has IP address 192.168.2.152
This PC is host machine for VM with IP address 192.168.2.151
If i install ranorex on PC 2's VM, and ask it to connect to floating licence it fails

If I try to ping 192.168.2.151 or 192.168.2.152 it succeeds
If I try to ping 192.168.2.150 it fails

So basically the VM cannot see the ranorex floating licence server.

Why is this and how do i resolve?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

What kind of VM are you using (VMWare, VirtualBox, etc...)? Which type of networking is set between VM and physical machine (NAT, Bridged,...)? I would suggest to use Bridged network adapter. Also, have you tried to ping PC 1 from PC 2 (not from VM)? make sure there is no GOP/FW policy preventing access to TCP and UDP port 7266.

Hi Thanks for quick reply.
The problem was indeed the firewall on PC1
I had checked it on VM and PC2 - typical it was going to be on the PC I took for granted as it being off

Anyway, disabled firewall and all is good in the world again.

Thanks :-)
