Troubleshoot emulator connection problem

Post by stapes » Tue Oct 20, 2015 10:06 am

I have been trying to set up a simple emulator to run my Android tests on (mostly for demonstration purposes).

I am using Genymotion emulator,.

I have created a virtual device Google Nexus 9 - 5.0.0 - API 21.

I have installed Ranorex Services Version 1.8.3) on it.

I have set up the developer options on it:

Stay awake.

USB Debugging.

In Ranorex Studio (5.4.1) under devices, I can straightaway see my new device, called here Nexus9emu

When I try to connect, I get this error in a tooltip:

Name: Nexus9emu
Host: 10.0.3.15
Port: 31000

A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. 10.0.3.15: 31000

I did not get a popup on the device asking for permission to connect as would normally happen.

Any ideas?

I don't care which emulator I get working.

I got slightly further emulating a Samsung Galaxy S5 device. This has connected fine.

Then, when I tried to Instrument our App, it goes through the process, I get the Install dialog popup on the emulator, and it tries to install.

Finally, I get X App not installed message. It does not go into detail.

I also tried Instrumenting the KeePassDroid app on here as an experiment.

The installation appeared to go OK, then I try & run it.

I went Create, entered a new password, and get this error "Unfortunately KeePassDroid has stopped."

All I want is one working emulator!

Hi,

When this happens, it usually helps to increase the "Connect Timeout" (in Global Settings >> Plugins >> Mobile section) value from default 10s to 30s or more. For more details, see this post:

Thanks. I tried increasing those Timeouts. Made no difference.

Well, my suggestion was about your initial post, which is apparently a connection timeout issue. As for your other post, this is probably something different?

Increasing the Connect Timeout did not make any difference trying to connect to a virtual Google Nexus 9.

Hi stapes,

I assume that the error message is provided by Android itself. May I ask you to check the requirements of your application (API Level, ScreenSize, etc…).
Additionally, it would be great if you could upload your application to the forum. This would allow us to try instrumenting and deploying it on other devices.

Thank you.

I tried uploading my application here as a zip file, as apk files are not allowed.

Unfortunately, The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 5 MiB.
