Update from VS 2012 to VS 2017

Post by Simran » Tue Nov 28, 2017 9:21 pm

Hi all,

I am going to update my VS from 2012 to 2017. Should I uninstall 2012 version first and then install new one or could I install VS 2017 just like that on the top of old one ?

thanks

Hi,

I'm not quite sure what does this question have to do with Ranorex, but I would personally first uninstall old VS before installing new one? As far as I know, installing new VS version, without uninstalling previous one, will result in two installed versions on the system ;)

Install VS2017 alongside VS2012. I have 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2017 on my box. They work fine.

Yeah, first, this isn't a Visual Studio forum, it's for Ranorex specific questions.

Second, you can install any VS version side-by-side with any other version. I would recommend this so you can make sure that everything works with 2017 before you uninstall 2012. There are some frameworks that are removed from newer versions but were in older versions.

Thanks all for reply. I am new to this environment. so my main concern was that Ranorex works properly after changing VS 2012 to VS 2017. I mean that it carries all TFS operations(undo pending changes, get latest, check in ). So, I put my question in Ranorex forum. I apologize for any convenience happened to anybody due to this post. I am sorry for asking question.

Thanks

Ranorex and Visual Studio are two separate applications and one has nothing to do with the other in terms of installation.

You can use VS to code Ranorex-based tests, and as long as you add the proper Ranorex libraries to your project's reference you should be good on any version of VS.
