Hi,

Version 57 of FireFox, currently in Beta and called Quantum, is apparently a big change to firefox. I was asked to install the beta to see how our program works with it. Do you guys support it? I realize you'll say it's in beta so officially you don't.... but was wondering if I could get it working?

I did quickly try to install 7.2 over 7.1 and installed Firefox beta, but I couldn't get the plug-in to work. By default the old Ranorex firefox plugin was moved to the legacy section and disabled. I removed it and tried to install the new one for version 50+ that comes with 7.2, but it never seemed to install.

Hi Aracknid,

I just downloaded the beta version to verify the behavior. I was able to install the Ranorex plugin as follows:
  • Install and open Firefox 57
  • Navigate to the installation folder of Ranorex Studio and open the folder "Ranorex Firefox Extension" (usually under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ranorex 7.2\Ranorex Firefox Extension\")
  • Drag and drop the [email protected] from Windows Explorer to Firefox
  • As a consequence, the add-on was installed successfully and I was able to inspect the DOM-elements
Please note that I didn't perform any further tests.

I hope this information will help you.

Sincerely,
Johannes

Thanks for the info. Here's so info for anyone else that might be thinking of trying this...

First, let me say that I'm simply trying to get my scripts to run, not figure out what all the problems are (might be) or how to resolve them.

1) I had the 64bit version of FF 52.3 ESR on my system before I started.
2) I uninstalled it
3) I downloaded the installed for 32 bit FF 57 beta 3
4) Installed FF 57
5) Tried to run the Ranorex Instrumentation Wizard to install the FF plug-in. The wizard said it completed, but FF 57 never loaded the add-on.
6) The suggested solution above by the support team worked, and the plug-in showed up in the add-ons.
7) I was able to run my tests without much issue.

NOW, here's the tricky part... I have many VM's that I needed to update, so I decided to skip some of the above steps. Specifically I wanted to keep the 64 bit ESR version installed while installing the 32 bit beta. They can work independently since they are installed to different places on the system. I believe this is what caused the issues below...

1) Leaving 64 bit FF ESR on system, I installed 32 bit FF 57
2) Didn't run wizard for plug-in, simply did the drag and drop
3) Ranorex (including Spy) couldn't see the DOM of FF 57 beta. Couldn't figure out why, so I then did the following steps
4) uninstalled FF 52
5) removed plug-in from FF 57
6) ran wizard, which didn't work
7) Added plug-in back via drag and drop

Now it was working.

Just an FYI in case it helps anyone.
