No suitable licence after upgrade from 7 to 8

Good afternoon

I installed ranorex 8.1.1 on my new laptop and configured the licensing server. But the server tells me that there is no suitable licence.
The server itself is found and working. If i then open ranorex 7.1.1 on my old laptop its working fine so there is a licence free and available.
Is there a difference between the licences for 7 and the licences for 8 ?

Regards Florian

Hi,

Your existing Ranorex license is most probably out of the support and maintenance period, which is one year from the date of purchase. If you want to continue to get support and upcoming major/minor versions of Ranorex, your license needs to be renewed. For more details about license renewal, check this page...

On your new laptop, do you have the Type set as "Auto" in your license configuration? I found it sometimes defaults to RunTime. I'm also assuming you have a floating premium license and not a node-locked one.

Hope that helps.

hello tvu

THanks for your suggestions. I checked it and its set to auto. And yes we have / had a floating premium licence

thanks for your answer

Would the old version still work even if the licence is no longer valid ?

Yes, old version will still work with your existing license. You should even be able to update your version to any version, which was released within your support&maintenance period.

Just an advice... using Ranorex without renewal is like driving a car without regular service checks or without changing oil. It may work for some time, but then it may fail at worst possible time ;) Ranorex is constantly updated (at nearly monthly basis), not only with bug fixes, but also with major technology enhancements and feature additions. One-year renewal price may look expensive, but it's much more expensive to buy new license if you decide to upgrade two or more years later (you need to buy whole new license!) ;) And I believe that company, which invested in Ranorex means to use it for quite a long time, not just one year or so? Just my opinion ;)
