Can we get more info on the upcoming Android App testing?

Hi,

In the latest "Ranorex News" that was e-mailed to me today, I saw that you are working on Android App testing. I was excited by this, but I had some questions and wondered if it would be possible to get some answers?

I have no idea how automated "device" testing works since I've never done it, but we are a client/server program, and our site works when accessed via these devices, but it's different for all devices (depending on the browser) so we are excited to see that this feature is coming.

1) If your program is a client/server web site, and you rely on the browser that comes with the device to access it, is this going to work for us (or is it only for an app that is developed)?

2) If you currently hand code everything using VS2010, and only have a developer license (thus not having the Ranorex Studio / Recorder), will it still be possible to use this app testing?

3) How far until you get it working with iPhone/iPad?

Thanks,

Aracknid

If you want to access the android browser on your device, this is currently not possible because you have to instrument the app as you maybe know it from flex. This is what you want to perform right?

For sure you have access to the plugin, but it is the more difficult way to use this plugin. We recommend to use the Ranorex Studio.

The current plan is to wait for the feedback of android. iOs and Windows phone is on our roadmap, but I cannot tell you when these two plugins will be available.

I don't know what you mean by Instrument the App. I have no idea what I want to do because I've never done mobile app testing before... I was hoping I could launch the browser and it would record my actions and then I'd have a script to manipulate and/or re-run. There are going to be issues because of different interactions with the devices and browser versions on mobile devices, and we were hoping for automation to help find them. I really have no concept of how this will work, so I look forward to seeing more info on this.

That's good to hear. From my point of view, iOs is as important (or more so) than Android.
