Is Ranorex 3.3.1 slower?

Hi,

We use VM's to do our work, and all my co-workers are complaining that since Ranorex 3.3.1 has been installed, it is much slower. All these VM's are Windows XP with SP3 and have 3 GB of memory allocated. Prior to updating to 3.3.1, one user was using 3.2.x and had no issues (the others were not using Ranorex at the time).

An example of slow is as follows; User has Spy, VS2010 and the AUT running. In the AUT they move over an element and hit CTRL+LWin to instant track. It may take about 10-15 seconds or more to update in Spy. If we switch to Spy to early, it may not track properly. Before the update to 3.3.1, it was very fast.

Is there some sort of setting that was off by default in previous versions that is now on that makes it take longer to find things?

As a comparison, I'm using a VM that is Windows 7 based and I have no problems at all with speed. All VM's have 3 GB of memory. I'm also running VS2012 RC.

Thanks,

Aracknid.

Hi,

To allow us to find out why this slowness appears please give us the exact description of the state of your VM's. Which applications are running, which technologies are in use when try to track, which settings were made in Ranorex, and so on.

Thanks,

I'm not really sure what I can tell you that will help. I was actually hoping you would tell me that the new 3.3.1 had some new setting that I could try to disable that would improve things :) As an FYI, we don't touch the Ranorex settings in the Spy tool at all. So they are the default settings.

Since I have 3 team members that are complaining about this, I went to one of their machines and tried to recreate some of these delays. I couldn't get it to happen. It was taking about 5 seconds to find any item deep in the DOM and the team member was surprised it was working. I was using Instant Tracking. He told me he normally used the normal tracking and it was taking a long time to draw the red outline. That was working too. I recall this was an issue for me when I first started using Ranorex well over a year ago and it was due to anti-virus software. Not to digress, but when we updated the anti-virus software all problems went away. But this is not the issue now as far as I can tell.

He told me he rebooted the VM, so probably that was what helped make things speedy. I told the others to do the same thing. I'm waiting to hear from them if they start having problems.

We had IE 8, Spy and VS2010 running at the time. If I hear that things are starting to slow down, I'll look into it and let you know if I cannot figure it out.
