FR: please add support for Excel Viewer

Hi,

Would it be possible to add support for Excel Viewer (for Excel data connector)? It would be great to be able to use the excel data connectors on systems with just Excel Viewer installed. It's really impractical to install full office (or even Excel alone) on the build&test machines.

I tried to use the Excel connector with installed MS Office Excel Viewer (v. 12.0.6611.1000) but Ranorex failed to add the connector with error "Excel is not installed".

Thank you in advance for considering this request! ;)

First, you know we are supposed to make feature request by email, right? :D

Second, if you must use files and not a full DB, why not just use CSV files instead? They don't need anything installed and can be created and manipulated in Excel just fine.

In my opinion, the only reason to use Excel for anything is because you are testing something IN Excel, in which case you have to have it installed anyway. Otherwise you should stay away from it. It requires too much overhead for what little you get out of it with Ranorex. Even the formulas are easy to re-produce in C#.

Hi krstcs,

Sure, I know it's better to make FR via email. I just thought some people here may find this FR useful too? ;)

As for using CSV instead of Excel, I definitely prefer using CSV. But I just started in a new company and got a project with Excel data connectors. So before I start redoing them to CSV, I want to stick with Excel. At least for a while ;)

Hi guys,

Unfortunately, we can’t handle and discuss feature requests in the forum :| . We plan to create an online feature discussion room in the future. Currently, please send feature requests to [email protected]

Thank you for your understanding.

Regards,
Robert
