Ability to click lost after running test

Hi, we've been experiencing some issues with Ranorex version 5.2.2.21596 where we lose the ability to click within the Ranorex dev environment following run of a test.

The UI still responds to mouse scroll using the wheel. The mouse cursor itself still moves fine, and the UI will respond to keyboard shortcuts. If you press "alt" you can get to the menus at the top of the UI, but the only way to regain mouse click ability is to close the project and re-open it. Mouse functions work perfectly fine in other instances of Ranorex that might be open, only the project that was just run is affected. Also, the mouse continues to work normally in any other applications on the machine and Explorer responds as expected.

We've got three instances behaving in this fashion. We've yet to nail down a specific sequence of events that leads to this behavior, but I was hoping that someone else might have experienced it as well and might be able to provide some insight.

5.2.2 is out of date. Please update to the current version (5.3.1) and let us know if the issue is still happening.

Unfortunately, since we have to pay $14000 to implement your suggestion, this is a bit of an expensive troubleshooting step. Is this behavior you know for sure is fixed by the update, or is this just a wild guess falling under the blanket of "older versions not supported" support methodology?

Since there have been no other reports of this type of issue, the probability is that it is either (a) your system, or (b) Ranorex 5.2.2, which has been superseded.

You should be able to update to 5.2.3. You should still be able to use any 5.2.x version. However, 5.2.3 is the last version of the 5.2.x line, so if you want any more fixes, you will need to pay for a new license.

You could try the trial version of 5.3.1 on a different system and see if it fixes the issue.

Barring those, you could finally try a fully clean re-install of Ranorex 5.2.2.
1. Uninstall Ranorex.
2. Reboot.
3. Re-install Ranorex using the Ranorex-5.2.2.exe file.

Finally, I am a customer like you, so please understand that I am trying to help. There have been many updates and bug fixes since 5.2.2 (which had a few issues), any number of which could potentially fix your issue, assuming the problem is with Ranorex. 5.3.1 is the current version and since I don't know what your license is, that is what I suggested.

Apologies, I just found out about the 2000$ per license upgrade cost and it was a bit of a stunner. I forgot that the forum is user supported rather than manned by Ranorex support staff, so the suggestion (in light of my short memory) came off as a push to pay for more licensing. I'll give your other suggestions a shot, but if those don't work I'll probably have to live with it. To my knowledge we won't be able to get approval for the purchase of upgraded licenses. In the end, it's not a show-stopper, because we can always close out gracefully (by using shortcut keys) and just reopen the project. It's an annoyance, but a minor one when stacked against that much money.

No worries.

The Ranorex support staff does actually man the forums, but their primary role is moderation.

If they know a better solution they will chime in most of the time.

Hello rezme,

Unfortunately, we have never seen that issue.
As krstcs already stated there may be different reasons for this behavior.
Pleas let us know if the suggestions of krstcs don't help.
We will have a deeper look at it, but please understand the we also have to make sure that it can be reproduced with the current version.
Maybe you can contact us by email.

Regards,
Bernhard

We finally saw a cessation of this behavior with the 5.4 upgrade.
