Web testing on iOS device - How accurate is testing with the RxBrowser?

Post by BlindJones » Tue May 04, 2021 7:45 am

Hello all,

we developed a web application which we also want to test on iOS and Android devices.

After reading some topics in the forum and on the Ranorex homepage I believe the easiest way would be to use the RxBrowser app on an iPad to test the application.

So, can anyone tell me how "accurate" the RxBrowser behave in comparion to Safari, for example?
How likely is that the application is running fine on Safari on an iOS device when testing with the RxBrowser result in no problems?

Do anyone have experiences regarding this? Do you use the RxBrowser?

Thank you for your feedback.

Kind regards
BlindJones

Hi,

Sadly, I'm not automating mobile apps (some experience with Android, but zero with iOS), so take my answer only as informative ;) As far as I know, RxBrowser is the ONLY chance how to test webs on iOS and Android probably too. Simply put, Ranorex has no access to mobile Safari, due to the iOS security restrictions. Therefore, RxBrowser is the only way how to test mobile webs directly on iOS devices.

Another possibility, could be running mobile tests via Appium? You can find couple of discussions regarding this topic at this forum.

And finally, I would suggest to check this post, which somewhat explains the difference between RxBrowser and Safari and another potential workaround...

Hi Pavel,

thank you for your answer.

I will have a look at Appium and the user agent addon for browsers.

Kind regards
