What license do you provide and are all bug fixes free?

Post by snowli » Mon Feb 15, 2010 8:15 pm

Hello,

After playing with the demo, we are planning to buy your software but still have some questions.

1. Do you have a website to explain to explain licenses you support. What does floating licenses mean. We may want to buy more than 1 lic for recording, so we want to read more info. about what lic do you support and what floating licenses are.

2.Is the terminology “maintenance release” means the releases for bug fixes only which are free?
If we buy current Ranorex version 2.2 and don’t buy subscription, will we get future maintenance release for 2.2 only or will we get maintenance release for future versions as well long as it’s bug fix? Or must we upgrade then to get bug fixes of newer version?

Thanks, Snow

See this link for license information:
http://www.ranorex.com/purchase/buy-now.html

No Subscription =
only includes bug fix releases
Subscription =
Subscriptions include free major and minor upgrades on the product(s) you purchased and priority technical support for one year.
So basically without a subscription you should get all maintenance and bug fix releases that are 2.x. If the product goes to 3.x and you have a current subscription you will get the 3.x upgrade.

Ranorex does not yet provide floating licenses, but I know they are discussing it. A floating license basically gives you a license pool on a central server that the clients check out. Say you have 3 floating licenses. You can have 3 different clients check out a license to operate but the 4th client will be denied until one of the previous 3 has been shut down and the license put back into the available pool.

Hi Ciege,

Thank you for your reply. I heard from their sales man that they don't provide later subscription. So subscription must be bought at the time of purchase.

Thanks, Snow

Based on price, the quality of the Ranorex software and the dedication of the Ranorex support and development teams I would say the price of the license & subscription is well worth it. Especially considering that none of the "leading" automation tool sets on the market now days can come even close to this price point...

I'd also add that Ranorex are very good about allowing you to move a licence from one machine to another without hassle. We've done it a couple of times, and had pretty-much same-day response.

That said, we're probably about to spend a few months moving licences about all the time, so floating licences would be A Really Good Idea.

Also, between this Forum and Support, getting answers to technical problems is excellent.
