Mobile Beta Testing

Follow the instructions below to instrument your iOS or Android app with a beta version of the Ranorex mobile library. This will enable you to test your app on a beta version of iOS or Android.

Note: Please make sure to always back up the originally installed libraries before replacing them with a beta version.

iOS beta automation library

Backup the shipped version of the library

  1. Open the Ranorex installation folder
    (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Ranorex 6.0)
  2. Navigate to Bin\RxEnv\iOS.
  3. Backup the file RxAutomation.dylib.
    (If you do not back up this file, you will later need to reinstall Ranorex Studio to return to a stable version of the library.)

Install the beta version of the library

  1. Make sure you are in the folder Bin\RxEnv\iOS in your Ranorex installation folder
    (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Ranorex 6.0\Bin\RxEnv\iOS)
  2. Copy the beta version of RxAutomation.dylib you have received form a Ranorex engineer into this folder.

Use the beta version of the library

  1. Re-instrument the system under test using the Ranorex Instrumentation Wizard.
    Your SUT will be instrumented with the new beta library.
  2. Install the newly instrumented app on your mobile device.

Revert to the stable library release

  1. Replace the beta library Version with the stable version you previously backed-up in Bin\RxEnv\iOS in your Ranorex installation folder
    (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Ranorex 6.0\Bin\RxEnv\iOS)

In case you do not have a backup, please reinstall Ranorex Studio.

Android beta automation library

Backup the shipped version of the library


  1. Open your Ranorex installation folder
    (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Ranorex 6.0)
  2. Navigate to Bin\RxEnv\Android.
  3. Backup the file slib.zip.
    (If you do not back up this file, you will later need to reinstall Ranorex Studio to return to a stable version of the library.)

Install the beta version of the library

  1. Make sure you are in the folder Bin\RxEnv\Andorid in your Ranorex installation folder
    (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Ranorex 6.0\Bin\RxEnv\Android)
  2. Copy the beta version of slib.zip you have received from a Ranorex engineer into this folder.

Use the beta version of the library


  1. Re-instrument the system under test using the Ranorex Instrumentation Wizard.
    Your SUT will be instrumented with the new beta library.
  2. Install the newly instrumented app on your mobile device.

Revert to the stable library release


  1. Replace the beta library Version with the stable one you have previously backed-up in Bin\RxEnv\Android in your Ranorex installation folder
    (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Ranorex 6.0\Bin\RxEnv\Android)

In case you do not have a backup, please reinstall Ranorex Studio.

Reverting to stable release:

Remove the beta version of RxAutomation.dylib with the version you backed up while activating the beta mechanism
